Karon is the longest of the Kata–Karon beaches, about 3 to 3.5 km depending on the source. Its white sand, its space and its hotels spread along the road make it a calmer alternative to Patong, without Kata's village feel. People come for long walks, sunsets and, in the dry season, swimming. It is also the beach where currents are most dangerous during the monsoon, so stay cautious.
Highlights

The long ribbon of sand
The sand is wide and the beach uncrowded outside peak times. Restaurants and drink sellers line the back of the beach.

The sunset
Like Kata, Karon faces west. Evening is the ideal time for a walk along the water.
The viewpoint
South of Kata, the Karon viewpoint looks over the bay. See also Kata Beach, the busier neighbour.
Practical info
Tips
- Karon is known for rip currents in the rainy season. Drownings were reported in June and September 2025 despite red flags: never swim when they are up, even in fine weather. Monsoon surf is for experienced surfers. To choose your beach, read the Kata and Karon guide; for safety advice, see scams and safety in Phuket. How to get there
Karon is about an hour by car from the airport, depending on traffic, between Patong and Kata. Taxi, Grab or shared pick-up bus (songthaew) from Phuket Town; see getting around Phuket.
