Day 1: temples, old town and market

Wat Chalong

Morning. Start early at Wat Chalong, the island's largest temple, then go up to the Big Buddha for the view. Cover shoulders and knees at both.

Lunch and afternoon. Head to Phuket old town: Sino-Portuguese facades, street art and cafés. Visit the Thai Hua Museum or Chinpracha House; see also the Phuket Town guide.

Evening. On Sunday, finish at the Lard Yai market. On other evenings, dine in the old town.

Day 2: beaches and sunset

Patong Beach

Morning. Swim at Kata or Karon, calmer than Patong; then go up to the Karon viewpoint.

Afternoon. Nai Harn beach, or a rest at the hotel in the hot hours.

Sunset. Cape Phromthep: arrive an hour early.

Getting around and where to stay

A car with driver or Grab is the simplest way to link these sites; see getting around Phuket. For two days, stay in Kata/Karon or Phuket Town depending on your priorities: see where to stay in Phuket. Out of season, replace the beach with an indoor activity: what to do when it rains.
