The general idea
Almost all the one-day tours offered on the island follow the same loop: old town, temples, Big Buddha, then Promthep Cape at sunset. It is a good compromise for seeing something other than the beach. Allow 30 minutes to 1 hour between stops depending on traffic; start early.

Morning: the old town (8am – 11am)
Arrive in Phuket Old Town before the heat rises: walk Thalang Road and Soi Rommanee, then choose a museum, either the Thai Hua Museum or Chinpracha House. The walk in detail is in the Phuket Town guide. Have lunch in town: the restaurants of Dibuk Road are often cited for local food.
Early afternoon: Wat Chalong (1pm – 2pm)
Wat Chalong is the island's most visited temple. Proper dress is required (shoulders and knees covered); allow about an hour.
Mid-afternoon: the Big Buddha (2.30pm – 4pm)
The Big Buddha of Phuket overlooks the island from a hill. The final road is narrow and steep; use a taxi or organised transport rather than a scooter if you are not comfortable.
Evening: sunset at Promthep Cape (5.30pm – 7pm)
Promthep Cape is the most famous viewpoint to watch the sun set over the Andaman Sea. It is very busy at dusk, with tour buses, scooters and cars arriving via Rawai: arrive early to find a spot.

How to organise it
| Option | For whom | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Private driver or day taxi | Most travellers | Fix the price and duration before getting in |
| Ride-hailing and stage taxis | Tight budget | Several rides, possible waiting at tourist sites |
| Organised tour | Saves time | Fixed stops, sometimes shops |
| Scooter | Experienced riders | Mountain roads, driving on the left |

Beach variant
If you prefer the sea, replace the old town with a morning on Kata Beach (Kata Beach), then keep the Big Buddha and Promthep Cape for the afternoon: all three are in the south of the island and follow quickly.

If you have more time, extend the loop with Phuket in 2 days or Phuket in 3 days. For the budget, see how much to plan for Phuket.
