Chinpracha House: Visiting a Sino-Portuguese Mansion in Phuket Town

Updated on October 19, 2026

Chinpracha House (Baan Chinpracha) is one of the best-preserved Sino-Portuguese mansions in Phuket Town. Built in the early 20th century for a well-to-do family linked to tin, according to guides, it is presented as a family home and small museum: you see the reception rooms, furniture, tiles and objects of a wealthy family of the period. It is a short visit of around thirty to forty-five minutes that complements the Thai Hua Museum well.

Highlights

This photograph shows a typical entrance of the quarter: dark wooden doors, an arch decorated with gilded stucco and coloured tiles. Chinpracha House plays in the same register, on a larger scale.

The neighbouring streets, such as Dibuk Road, have kept several multi-storey buildings of the same era, with pedimented façades and arched windows. A walk lets you see several in a few minutes.

The reception rooms and garden

The visit is organised around the main hall, the living rooms and the inner courtyard. The explanations dwell on the imported tiles, the woodwork and the family's way of life.

Practical info

Tips

  • According to several travel sites (not confirmed by an official website), admission is around 150 THB for foreign visitors and 100 THB for Thais; an older blog post gives 200 THB, probably out of date. Check at the entrance. The house is partly private: respect marked areas, do not touch the furniture and check with staff before photographing. Combine it with the nearby Thai Hua Museum and Phuket Old Town. For food or coffee, read the Phuket Town guide.

How to get there

The house is at 98 Krabi Road, in Phuket Old Town, a few minutes' walk from the Thai Hua Museum. From the beaches take a taxi or ride-hailing app to Phuket Town; see getting around Phuket.
