Bang Tao and Laguna: beach, resorts and golf on Phuket's west coast
Bang Tao is the west-coast area north of Surin, built around a very long beach and the Laguna Phuket complex, a group of large lagoon-side hotels, a golf course and shops. The area is more spread out and residential than Patong or Kata: you often stay in a resort or a villa and get around by car or shuttle. It suits families, couples and travellers who want comfort and space rather than nightlife.
Highlights

Bang Tao beach
The beach is one of the longest in Phuket and is often less crowded than those in the south. See the Bang Tao beach page. Restaurants and beach clubs follow one another along the seafront.

Laguna Phuket and its golf course
The Laguna estate groups several hotels around lagoons and a golf course. Part of the site is reserved for hotel guests; ask your hotel about shuttles, access and restaurants open to visitors.
Restaurants and shops
Along the Bang Tao road you find restaurants, supermarkets, boutiques and a leisure centre; the atmosphere is calmer than in Patong. For a bigger choice of shops, a large shopping mall is in Phuket Town (Central Phuket).
Practical info
Tips
- Bang Tao is more spread out than Kamala: without a car you will depend on taxis, ride-hailing and tuk-tuks; compare prices before getting in and read our tips on scams to avoid in Phuket. If you want a village you can walk around, Kamala is more practical. To choose between areas, see where to stay in Phuket. The information on this page comes from travel guides and public sources, not from an official website of the area.
How to get there
Bang Tao is one of the areas closest to the airport: allow about 30 minutes by road depending on traffic (see from the airport to the beaches). Taxi or pre-booked transfer; on site, hotel shuttles, taxis, ride-hailing or scooter.
