Patong: Phuket's lively resort town, beach, restaurants and nightlife
Patong is Phuket's busiest beach resort, on the west coast, about 40 minutes by road from Phuket Town. It brings together a big beach, the Jungceylon shopping centre, hundreds of restaurants, massage parlours and shops, and above all Bangla Road, the pedestrian street of bars and clubs. By day people come for the beach and boat trips; at night the town becomes the noisiest address on the island. The area suits those who want everything within walking distance: hotels for every budget, shows, Thai boxing, money exchange and pharmacies. It suits less those looking for quiet: traffic is heavy, the streets are loud and the town is very commercial. For a peaceful stay, look instead at Kata, Karon or Kamala.
Highlights

Bangla Road
Patong's pedestrian street, quiet by day, fills with neon, music and terraces after dark. You will find bars, restaurants and street shows; some venues offer adult-only shows. Keep an eye on your belongings and check prices before ordering.

The gateway to Patong
The "Welcome to Patong" neon sign marks the entrance to the bar zone. Around it, the side lanes (sois) are lined with beer bars, nightclubs and restaurants.
Patong Beach
The town's big beach runs along the whole bay, with sun loungers, cafés and water sports. See our Patong Beach page, especially for the red flags in the rainy season.
Jungceylon
The district's big shopping centre has shops, restaurants and a cinema, out of the heat. See the Jungceylon page.
Thai boxing and cabaret
For an evening out, Thai boxing matches (Thai boxing in Phuket) and the cabaret show (Simon Cabaret) are the two safe bets.

Tips
- Patong's tuk-tuks have no meter: agree the price before getting in, or use a ride-hailing app. To avoid being woken by music, choose a hotel away from Bangla Road, in the northern streets or near the beach rather than in the bar sois. Read our scams and safety in Phuket guide and our Patong guide for addresses and neighbourhoods.
How to get there
Patong is on Phuket's west coast, about 15 km from Phuket Town and 40 minutes by road from the town, longer from the airport depending on traffic. Get there by taxi, ride-hailing, minibus or tuk-tuk. See getting around Phuket and from Phuket airport to the beaches.
