Freedom Beach in Phuket: hidden beach between Patong and Karon, access and tips
Freedom Beach is a small white-sand beach tucked into a cove between Patong and Karon, at the foot of wooded hills. There is no road to the sand: you arrive by longtail boat from the south of Patong or on foot along a forest path with stairs. It is pretty, calm compared with Patong and has a few drink huts, but access depends on the weather. Allow half a day.
Highlights

The cove and clear water
A short beach framed by rocks and greenery, good for swimming and snorkelling when the sea is calm.

The stairs down
The forest path from the road is steep and slippery after rain; bring good shoes and water.
The boat ride
From the southern end of Patong the crossing takes about 10 to 20 minutes and gives a view of the coast.

Tips
- According to the guides consulted in October 2026, the boat costs around 1,200 to 1,500 baht return (up to 1,800 baht according to one source) and you need to negotiate. An entrance fee of 100 to 300 baht per person is reported depending on the access chosen, sometimes with a paid jeep shuttle on the road; figures vary from source to source. Boats mainly run from December to May; from June to November the sea is often too rough and boat access is limited or impossible. Do not swim when red flags are up. Bring water, sunscreen and cash in baht: the small stalls do not always take cards. For an easier beach, see Patong beach, Karon beach or Kata beach; for the traps to avoid with boats and jet skis, read scams in Phuket.
