The week at a glance

Days 1 and 2: the south-west

Stay in Kata or Karon to limit travel (where to stay in Phuket, Kata). The first day stays light after the flight. The second links three southern beaches and ends at Promthep Cape, best about an hour before sunset.

Day 3: Phang Nga

Limestone pinnacles, sea kayaking in caves and James Bond Island (excursion guide). The national park fee is 300 THB per adult (noted on our pages): check whether it is included.

Day 4: the Old Town

A calmer, sheltered day: the Old Town, the southern temples and the Big Buddha. On Sundays, finish at the Lard Yai market.

Day 5: Phi Phi

The classic trip, by speedboat or large boat (Phi Phi from Phuket). Park fee 400 THB per adult (our pages). Maya Bay is closed from 1 August to 30 September.

Day 6: Krabi

Krabi can be done as a "4 islands" excursion, or by ferry or private transfer: compare in Krabi from Phuket and Phuket or Krabi. A night there is more comfortable.

Practical tips

  • Season: the sea is calmest from November to April; off-season, keep free days for trips cancelled by swell.
  • Getting around: see getting around Phuket.
  • Budget: see the cost of a trip to Phuket.
  • Hotel: compare Phuket hotels on Booking, reading the free-cancellation terms.

Phi Phi and Bamboo excursion

For day 5, the Phi Phi and Bamboo Island trip with buffet lunch is a starting point to compare options: read what is included, the park fee and the cancellation terms.

How many sea trips? Two or three, with a land day between each.

Do I need to change hotel? Not required; a night in Krabi is a plus.
