The season
Big-game fishing is best in the dry season, from about mid-October to mid-May. From May to October the sea is rougher: fishing then happens near sheltered islands, mostly for bottom fish. For the month's weather, see rainy season in Phuket and the best time to visit Phuket.
What to check before booking
Ask what the price includes: fuel, bait, lunch, drinks, hotel transfer, insurance and park fees. Ask where you will fish too: some protected marine areas restrict fishing, and the operator should know. Check life jackets and radio equipment as well; see also speedboat or big boat.
If you are not only there to fish
A private boat also suits a mixed day (fishing, swimming, islands). For a private yacht or speedboat with activities, see private yacht charter in Phuket.
