Surin Islands from Phuket: snorkeling, season, prices and how to get there (2026)
Quick answer: Mu Ko Surin Marine National Park, north of Khao Lak, is quieter than the Similans, with good snorkeling on shallow reefs. It opens in the dry season: according to a travel blog, the 2026-2027 season runs from 15 October 2026 to 15 May 2027 (we found no official national parks page to confirm: check before booking). Park fee: 500 baht per foreign adult and 250 baht per child aged 3 to 14 according to sources; some operators quote 400 and 200 baht. Most day trips leave from Khao Lak or Khura Buri, not Phuket: allow 9 to 10 hours door to door.
Highlights

Photo of the neighbouring Similans: Surin offers the same white beaches and clear water with fewer visitors.
Reef snorkeling
Trips usually include 2 to 3 snorkeling stops; the SeaStar listing we saw mentions three.
The Moken village
The Moken, a semi-nomadic sea people, live on the islands; visit respectfully and follow your guide.

Tips
- Phuket is not the best starting point: if you stay in Phuket, some offers include an early transfer to Khao Lak or Phang Nga (earlier start, longer day). For a closer base, see Khao Lak from Phuket. Compare the price (one offer starts at 2,500 baht), duration, number of stops, whether the park fee is included and the boat size. Rough seas are possible at the start and end of the season. For the other big park of the season, see the Similan Islands and the Similan day trip.
How to get there
Day trip from Khao Lak (speedboat, about 1.5 hours each way) Trip from Phuket with transfer to the Phang Nga or Khao Lak pier (long day) Multi-day liveaboard
