Wat Suwan Khuha (Phang Nga): the Cave Temple with the Reclining Buddha, Hours, Price and Monkeys (2026 Guide)

Updated on October 25, 2026

Wat Suwan Khuha, or Wat Tham Suwan Khuha, is a temple in a limestone cave in Phang Nga province, about 9 km from Phang Nga town, on Highway 4. The main cave holds a large golden reclining Buddha, about 15 m long in a chamber about 40 m long; a trail leads to more caves with stalactites and statues. Usually open from 8:00 to 17:00, with an entry fee of 20 baht according to one guide (another site says free): carry a small note. Allow one hour on site. Beware of the monkeys, which grab whatever sticks out of bags.

Highlights

The Buddha statues in the cave

The Buddha statues in the cave

Buddha statues in saffron robes line up beneath the rock vault; this is the atmosphere of a temple set directly in the rock.

The caves at the back

The caves at the back

Beyond the main cave, a trail leads to other chambers with stalactites and Buddha statues. A tour listing says entry to the deep part requires an extra fee.

The monkeys

They are numerous and fed by visitors. Put valuables away, do not feed them, do not provoke them.

Practical info

Tips

  • Dress properly for a temple: shoulders and knees covered. Keep phone, glasses and food in a closed bag because of the monkeys. Mornings before 10:00 are calmer; avoid weekends and public holidays if you can. Sources differ on the entry price (20 baht, or free), so keep small change. The site combines easily with a bay excursion: see Phang Nga Bay and the James Bond excursion. For nature, Khao Sok from Phuket. The information comes from travel guides, not an official site.

How to get there
