Surin is a small crescent beach between Kamala and Bang Tao, on Phuket's west coast. It is known for its fine sand, clear water and beach clubs, and it has a smarter, pricier image than its neighbours. It is short and can be walked in a few minutes, which makes it very easy to enjoy: you settle in, swim, and have lunch in one of the seafront restaurants. As elsewhere on the coast, swimming is lovely in the dry season and not advised in strong swell.
Highlights

The crescent of sand
The beach is bordered on one side by wooded rocks and on the other by restaurants and beach clubs. The water is turquoise in calm weather. In high season the beach is very busy, especially at the end of the day.

The monsoon waves
From roughly May to October, the swell can form waves sought after by surfers, and swimming becomes risky. Surf schools and board rentals exist in the area; ask for advice locally, and do not swim under a red flag.
The beach clubs and restaurants
The seafront venues offer sunbeds, cocktails and Thai or international cuisine. Prices are higher than in the village streets of Kamala: ask whether there is a minimum spend before settling onto a beach bed.

Tips
- Come early in the morning if you want space on the sand. Seafront restaurants are pricier; you will find cheaper options in the streets behind the beach and in Kamala, a few minutes away. There is no regular public transport: see getting around Phuket. For a long, less built-up beach, go to Bang Tao. The information on this page comes from travel guides and public sources, not from an official website of the beach.
How to get there
Surin lies between Kamala (to the south) and Bang Tao (to the north), roughly thirty minutes by road from the airport (see from the airport to the beaches). Taxi, ride-hailing or scooter; the beach is reached on foot from the coastal road.
