Ko Panyi, the floating village of Phang Nga Bay: visit, lunch and which tour to choose (2026)
Ko Panyi (also spelled Koh Panyee) is a Muslim fishing village on stilts, set against a cliff in Phang Nga Bay. It is almost always visited on a tour with James Bond Island, and lunch is often included. The village can be walked freely (the sources mention no entry fee, and there is no official site): allow 45 minutes to 1 hour there. Most of the cost is the tour: about 1,200 to 2,000 baht per person in a group from Phuket, including transfer, lunch and national park fee, according to the offers consulted.
Highlights

The stilt houses
The village is built over the water at the foot of a limestone wall; you stroll on narrow walkways between houses, shops and restaurants.
The mosque
The Darussalam mosque is the heart of the village; one source gives 8 am to 5 pm. Cover up, keep your voice down, and ask before photographing residents.
The seafood lunch
The restaurants over the water serve the tour lunches. Check at booking that lunch is actually served in the village, and mention dietary needs (vegetarian and halal are offered on some listings).
The souvenir market
The lanes are largely souvenir and pearl stalls; prices are negotiable, quality is uneven.

Tips
- Choose a tour that leaves you at least 45 minutes in the village, not just a rushed lunch stop. Tours from Phuket often arrive around noon with everyone else: an early start, or a tour from Khao Lak, gives quieter moments. One traveller found the village visit disappointing: it is a very touristy place, not an untouched village. The boat is a safety point: see speedboat or big boat. To compare tours, read the Phang Nga Bay excursion and Phuket or Khao Lak. The information comes from travel guides and tour listings, not an official site.
How to get there
Only by boat, from Phang Nga Bay: speedboat, catamaran or longtail tours from Phuket (about 1 hour of road and sea), Khao Lak or Krabi. Take a tour with transfer; private options exist. See Khao Lak from Phuket.
