Thalang National Museum: Phuket's history, opening hours and ticket price
The Thalang National Museum, run by the Fine Arts Department, is Phuket's main history museum. Opened in 1989, it is in the north of the island, right next to the Two Heroines Monument. Its rooms cover prehistory, tin and trade, the life of the Chao Le (sea gypsies) and the Burmese siege of 1785, the founding episode of local history. Allow an hour.
Highlights

The building
A low building with a tiled roof, surrounded by a garden. According to some sources the museum was closed for renovation for a time.
The siege of 1785
The main room covers the defence of Thalang led by two women, Khunying Chan and Mook, against the Burmese army, which the neighbouring monument celebrates.
Tin and the Chao Le
Objects linked to tin mining, trade and the life of the Chao Le (sea people) round off the visit.

Tips
- Admission price, opening days and hours: no official website could be consulted in October 2026 and guides contradict each other, so nothing is given here; check with Thailand's Fine Arts Department or on site before you go. Explanations are in Thai and English. Combine with Wat Phra Thong and Wat Phra Nang Sang, both nearby.
How to get there
The museum is in Thalang, in the north of Phuket, 100 to 200 metres east of the Two Heroines Monument, on Route 402. Allow 30 to 40 minutes by taxi or Grab from Phuket Town or Patong; the road is easy by scooter. See the Phuket transport guide.
