Bamboo Island (Koh Mai Phai): how to get there from Phuket, prices and which trip to book

Updated on October 25, 2026

Bamboo Island is a small island of white sand and very clear sea northeast of Phi Phi Don, in the national park. It has no accommodation: you visit on a day trip. From Phuket the simplest is a speedboat or catamaran tour combining Phi Phi, Maya Bay and Bamboo, about 10 hours. Travel sites quote park fees of about 400 baht per adult and 200 per child, paid in cash on the spot unless stated otherwise (check: they change).

Around the island

You can walk around the island on the sand in a short stroll. Groups arrive mostly between mid-morning and early afternoon: go early or stay late.

Practical info

Tips

  • Choose a tour that includes Bamboo: some Phi Phi trips stop at Maya Bay without visiting the island. Check whether the park fee is included (some tickets include it, others ask for cash) and the group size: a fast catamaran or a small-group speedboat limits crowds. To go on your own you need a ferry or speedboat to Phi Phi Don (1.5 to 2 hours) then about 45 to 60 minutes by boat from Ton Sai, per one guide: long and costly for little time on site. See also the Phuket - Phi Phi ferry. Prices and times come from operators, not an official site.

How to get there

No public direct link from Phuket: a day tour by speedboat or catamaran with hotel transfer, or ferry to Phi Phi Don then longtail or speedboat. See getting around Phuket.

Opening hours

Best: November to April, early morning
Island reachable by day only, by boat; tours usually leave in the morning and return late afternoon
