To get by in Phuket, remember ten phrases: "sawatdee khrap/kha" (hello), "khop khun khrap/kha" (thank you), "tao rai?" (how much?), "mai phet" (not spicy), "aroi" (delicious) and "chuay duay!" (help). Men end sentences with "khrap", women with "kha". Pronunciation is given in simple letters: Thai is a tonal language, but you will be understood anyway, especially with a smile.
