Thailand Visa for Phuket: 30-Day Exemption, Extension, TDAC

To visit Phuket as a tourist, most European, American, British, Canadian, Australian and Japanese passport holders need no visa: since 15 September 2026 the exemption is 30 days (it was 60) for 60 countries and territories, according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and orders published in the Royal Gazette on 31 August 2026. You must also fill in the TDAC digital arrival card. Check your nationality with the Thai foreign ministry or your embassy before booking.

Extending your stay

A guide read on 30 October 2026 says a 30-day extension is possible at an immigration office, for about 1,900 THB, to be requested before the permitted stay ends. Immigration decides case by case. To stay longer, a tourist visa (TR) obtained before departure is the other route.

Proof you may be asked for

Guides mention proof of funds of 20,000 THB per person and an exit or onward ticket. This requirement does not appear in the TAT announcement we read: carry a return ticket and a hotel booking confirmation in case the airline or immigration asks.

The TDAC card

The digital arrival card is free and opens 72 hours before arrival. It is not a visa. Fill it in only on the official site: see the TDAC card for Phuket. The other rules (alcohol, vaping, cannabis) are in before you go to Phuket.

Overstaying

A guide quotes a fine of 500 THB per day of overstay, capped at 20,000 THB, not counting possible consequences for future entries. Check the deadline on your entry stamp.
