What the four countries say

We read the FCDO and French pages on their official sites on 29 October 2026. For Germany and the State Department we rely on reports because the pages could not be loaded: check the current wording there.

Warning or advice: what is the difference?

A Reisewarnung is the strictest level of the German foreign office and applies to a country or region; a partial warning covers areas only. Alongside it sit travel and safety notes with no warning (crime, rainy season, health). For Phuket only the latter applies as far as we can tell.

What the Phuket notes mean in practice

  • Crime and fraud: pickpocketing, inflated jet-ski rental and taxi prices; read scams and safety in Phuket.
  • Rainy season: floods and landslides are possible from May to October; see Phuket weather and disruptions.
  • Health: Germany advises, besides routine shots, protection against dengue, hepatitis A and B and rabies; talk to your doctor.
  • Law: criticism of the monarchy, drugs and vapes are strictly regulated; see before you go: laws in Phuket.
  • Entry: passport valid at least six months; registering on your government's crisis list is recommended.

What it means for travel insurance

The FCDO warns that travelling against its advice can invalidate your insurance. That does not apply to Phuket as things stand, but it does to trips to the far south of Thailand or the Cambodian border. Whether cancellation or medical cover pays out is set by your policy; ask the insurer before booking. Practical notes on scooters, diving and islands: travel insurance for Phuket.
