What the law says, and the plan to legalise

Casinos are banned in Thailand, and so is online betting. In January 2025 the government approved a bill to allow "entertainment complexes" with a casino, and Phuket is named among the places considered; we found no source showing that the law is in force or that a casino has opened. Before you travel, check the Thai government sites or the Thai embassy in your country.

Casino boats, private rooms and betting

You may be offered a "casino night" on a boat, gaming tables in a bar or bets on a match. None of these rests on a licence you can verify. Taking part in an unauthorised game can lead to a fine or arrest, and you have no recourse if your stake or winnings are taken. Online betting from Phuket is equally banned. What to do in the evening instead

Phuket has plenty of legal evenings: a sunset dinner by the sea, a show, the nightlife of Bangla Road in Patong, or a boat trip to Coral Island with snorkelling and a sunset dinner, which fills an evening well.
