What the rule says

The shops

Shops that serve walk-in customers, especially smoking-oriented ones, may be operating illegally, according to the TAT: what was tolerated was never authorised. A guide read in October 2026 says thousands of shops have closed and those that remain look like medical consultations, with a practitioner present and a prescription asked for. Sales online, by vending machine or by advertising are banned, as are sales near temples, parks, zoos and leisure venues.

Phuket in practice

Phuket checks its shops in Patong, Bangla Road and beach areas. On the street you will not necessarily be stopped for visiting a shop, but a purchase without a prescription exposes you. Products with less than 0.2% THC remain legal. Do not smoke in public and carry nothing at the airport. The other local rules are in before you go to Phuket, and night-time traps in Bangla Road and scams and safety in Phuket.

If you are ill or under treatment

For medical use, see a doctor in Thailand before the trip; this site gives no medical advice. Clinics are listed in health in Phuket.
